Why art?
As a self-taught artist and mother, I noticed there was a gap in the community. Children who were not interested in sports had little to no other opportunity to enjoy themselves creatively or make social connections outside of school.
After starting small classes at home for 12 months classes grew quickly enabling us to move the studio to 66 Herbert Street. Not only children’s classes increased but adults' paint and sip nights, and tailored parties both corporate and personal arose along with mosaic, soft pastel and painting workshops for the community.

‘I noticed that many people both for children’s activities and adults alike were unable to travel to Mudgee either due to financial reasons or time constraints. Having this as a local business fills that need. I enjoy keeping both the resources I buy, classes, and commissions locally. There are so many talented creative people in Gulgong I am constantly trying to encourage others to join my studio to show our community their talents and pass it on to others. To learn new creative skills, make new friends and improve their overall creative health!’
Introducing the Artist…
Owner of Karralika Studio Bel Davies has lived in Gulgong her whole life going to school and eventually University. Wife and mother of three great kids she has always had an interest in art. After many years of nursing, Bel made a change and went to work at the local public school which allowed her the time to focus on her art.
The studio is named after her home which was built in the early 50s and was named by the original owners and is aboriginal for ‘on a height’ as the home is situated on top of a hill. With no formal training Bel concentrates on her creative strengths and loves to pass these skills on to others in some small way including many works on the walls of businesses in her local town and commissioned pieces hanging in the homes of families across Australia.
